One of the newest ski resorts in North America, Beaver Creek is a unique mountain resort featuring influences from renowned resorts such as Switzerland’s St. Moritz, Italy’s Cortina, and Spain’s Val d’Aran. Although the Beaver Creek area was first discovered in 1881, it wasn’t actually settled until about 1951.
Beaver Creek was conceived by a development group from nearby Vail, with the intention of creating a special resort destination. Obstacles delayed completion of the resort, but it finally opened in December 1980. Beaver Creek features three distinct on-mountain villages, each with its own unique character and intimate mountain setting. As a result, it is often referred to as “the country club of ski areas.” The area is also home to exclusive spas, a 530-seat performing arts center, a snowshoeing and Nordic park, sleigh ride dinners and an outdoor ice skating located in the heart of the Beaver Creek Village. Surrounding the rink are heated walkways, restaurants, galleries and boutiques.
The stunning setting of Beaver Creek, Arrowhead and Bachelor Gulch provide guests with numerous opportunities to relax and enjoy. Complimentary village transportation makes traveling around the three villages is easy.
Beaver Creek plays host to numerous museums and festivals. Stroll through the children’s museum which features fun, educational, interactive exhibits for kids ages 2 -12 or, visit the largest collection of American Western artifacts at SaddleRidge’s museum. Beaver Creek’s Hike-ology program consists of three designated trails and is designed to introduce kids to the environment and flora and fauna that live in the surrounding mountains. From the Blue Brews and BBQ, Beaver Creek Rodeo Series and weekly Culinary Demonstrations to Antique and Art Festivals, the annual Fourth of July celebration and Wine & Spirits Festival, there something to match everyone’s interest. the Vilar Performing Arts Center located in Beaver Creek Village hosts symphonies, ballet companies, film, Broadway musicals, comedy, and is the perfect venue for an elegant, intimate theater experience.
Beaver Creek boasts a number of unique dining establishments. Take a horseback ride to Beano’s for a gourmet five-course dinner. Beaver Creek Chophouse boasts the best outdoor dining and breathtaking views. They even have a magician to entertain the little ones. 8100 Mountainside Bar and Grill restaurant located in the Park Hyatt includes expansive views of the mountain, an intimate wine room with chef’s table and an open kitchen design with a 66-inch wood burning grill. For a fun lunchtime experience, take a scenic lift ride to Spruce Saddle Lodge and enjoy the outdoor barbecue.
The night life in Beaver Creek is just as lively. One of Beaver Creek’s late night hotspots is the Coyote Café, a popular hangout for locals. Guests can enjoy live music, great drinks and free ski movies. Other hot spots feature live jazz and concerts.
