Aspen/Snowmass Lift Serviced Backcountry Skiing. Aspen Mountain/Aspen Highlands/Snowmass. One of the secrets and pleasures of Aspen/Snowmass is the lift-served backcountry skiing/riding available just beyond the boundaries of the ski resorts. Aspen Expeditions, a White River National Forest Service permittee, has been guiding the winter backcountry since 1976. AE has a unique relationship with the Aspen Skiing Company to access the backcountry from near the summits of the ski areas. Our professional IFMGA/AMGA trained or certified ski mountain guides have been guiding beyond Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and even Buttermilk for over 20 years. On a powder day there is nothing quite like skiing beyond the boundaries of the ski area. Ski 1500 ft descents and go back up or ski/ride long descents over 3000 vertical feet to the valley floor through groves of aspen and evergreen trees. This experience is an affordable alternative to snowcat or heli skiing by using the lifts for uphill transportation. Come back at the end of the day with an experience that no one else had!
